Student Health Promotion seeks graduate students passionate about learning, health promotion, community outreach, program planning and evaluation. This position is ideal for Public Health, Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Sociology and Psychology degree candidates. General description: Graduate assistants help in developing, implementing, and evaluating health promotion programs and initiatives for Georgia State University students on six campuses (i.e., Atlanta, Alpharetta, Dunwoody, Decatur, Clarkston, and Newton). Graduate assistants within Student Health Promotion are under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Student Wellness and work in collaboration with Student Health Promotion and Student Victim Assistance. The position is a 15-20-hour commitment, some nights and weekends required. Students will be located at the Atlanta campus but must be able to travel to Perimeter campuses for assigned programs.

Eligibility requirements:

  • Enrolled in a graduate program at Georgia State University
  • Meet college or school’s required minimum enrollment
  • Permission of academic department to receive a waiver

Opportunities, experiences, and responsibilities may include:

  • Designing innovative, evidence-based programs on topics such as alcohol, marijuana, tobacco, sexual health, and mental health
  • Conducting research to inform programs and initiatives
  • Developing and implementing evaluation tools
  • Facilitating trainings and outreach
  • Writing content for websites, social media, and blogs
  • Providing leadership with peer health educators and student volunteers
  • Assisting with program administration, such as Healthy Monday, the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety grant and social media content

Ideal candidates will have:

  • A desire to learn and contribute to the well-being of the Georgia State University community
  • Organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and projects
  • Experience with program development, facilitation and/or evaluation
  • An ability to present information in an engaging, professional, and effective manner
  • A commitment to contributing to team efforts
  • Integrity to work independently, follow-up on assignments and take initiative on projects
